Thomas M. Wood
Tom Wood has been a trial and business lawyer for over 16 years. His practice is focused on representing health care providers, contractors, and other Mobile-area businesses. Tom has considerable experience defending physicians in negligence and wrongful death cases, and in representing a variety of health care providers on payment, organizational, and regulatory issues. He's tried and arbitrated dozens of construction claims on both simple and complex issues.
Tom has significant trial, litigation, and arbitration experience in a variety of disciplines, including primarily health care and construction but also product liability, marine, banking and financial services, real estate, transportation, employment, and personal injury. In addition, he has expertise representing trustees and clients in business torts involving proprietary and trade secrets claims, copyright and non-competition issues, and other general commercial litigation claims. During his career, Tom has been involved in dozens of jury trials to verdict.
In addition to his extensive litigation and trial practice, Tom regularly represents businesses in their daily transactions and commercial disputes. His specialty is in applying his litigation and tax background to avoid disputes while always being prepared to address disputes should they arise. This experience transfers to all businesses and all people.
Previously, Tom was a partner at Burr & Forman and was in-house counsel for a general aviation manufacturer, where he focused on the company’s national and international product liability defense but also handled various corporate matters. He is an instrument rated private pilot.
Tom regularly writes and speaks to various organizations on current legal issues. Most recently, Tom published an article providing updates to physician members of MASA, which can be viewed here: http://alabamamedicine.org/ He regularly speaks to a health care industry groups, including both administrators and providers.
Tom earned his law degree and masters in tax law from the University of Alabama School of Law. He was a member of the Order of Barristers, the Bench & Bar Legal Honor Society, and the John A. Campbell Moot Court Board, where he was a member of the intellectual property moot court national team. He graduated from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina. He is a lifetime member and former district director of The Citadel Alumni Association and a founding officer and current President of the South Alabama Citadel Club.

Tom is not only licensed to practice before state and federal courts in each of these states, he is also licensed to appear and has presented oral argument before the United States Courts of Appeal for the Fifth Circuit and the Eleventh Circuit.
